Wellness Exams Q & A

What are wellness exams?

Wellness exams are regular visits with your primary care provider that give you a comprehensive overview of your health and wellness. They’re an important part of preventive care at any age, and Whole Path Integrative Care offers them for your whole family. A wellness exam is more than a routine visit, it's an investment in your future health. By identifying potential concerns early and supporting healthy lifestyle, choices, you can prevent illness, maintain energy, and improve quality of life.

At Whole Path Integrative Care, our integrative approach ensures that your wellness exam addresses the whole person, not just symptoms, so you can thrive, physically, mentally and emotionally

When you attend your wellness visit, there are a few steps you can expect every time. Whole Path Integrative Care Associates follows this general outline for these visits:

  • Comprehensive health history: Review of personal and family medical history; Assessment of lifestyle, habits, diet, exercise, sleep, and stress; And discussion of current medications, supplements, and therapies.
  • Vitals assessment: Measurement A blood pressure, heart rate and body mass index; Evaluation of general, physical health, including cardiovascular and respiratory status; Review of skin, joints, and basic neurological function.
  • Laboratory Screening (As Appropriate): Blood panels to assess cholesterol, blood, sugar, thyroid, liver, and kidney function, and more; Hormone panels, if indicated; And additional labs based on age, risk factors, or symptoms.
  • Preventative Screenings & Vaccinations: Age-appropriate cancer screenings, such as breast, cervical, prostate,: etc.; Bone density testing, heart, health assessments, or other preventative measures; Immunizations and booster recommendations.
  • Lifestyle & Risk Assessment: Evaluation of nutrition, exercise habits, stress, levels, and sleep patterns; Assessment of mental and emotional well-being; Guidance on reducing risk factors for chronic disease.
  • Personalized Health Plans: Development of an individualized plan for nutrition, fitness, stress management, and prevent preventative care; Recommendations for follow up labs, specialist, referrals, or therapies as needed; Integrative strategies to optimize physical and mental health.

Once the physical examination and any tests or updates are complete, Whole Path Integrative Care establishes a physical and behavioral health plan for you to follow going forward. This plan addresses any gaps or deficiencies in your health. Following it closely can improve your wellness and potentially your lifespan.

Which tests can I get during a wellness exam?

If your health status, concerns, age, or symptoms call for it, the team at Whole Path Integrative Care might order additional tests during a wellness exam. Diagnostic tests or screenings offer more detailed information about certain aspects of your health and can lead to important diagnoses.

Whole Path Integrative Care may request:

  • Blood tests
  • Urinalysis
  • Stool testing
  • Mammogram testing
  • Dexa bone scan testing
  • Imaging tests (e.g., X-rays)
  • Ultrasounds and advanced imaging if indicated

These tests don’t happen with every wellness visit, but Nicole can tell you how they’ll benefit you after recommending them.

What is the benefit of a wellness exam?

As a preventive care strategy, wellness exams aim to keep you healthy and reduce your risk for avoidable diseases. Wellness visits with Whole Path Integrative Care can help you:

  • Stay up-to-date on immunizations
  • Identify signs of disease in early stages
  • Address and change unhealthy habits
  • Improve your nutrition
  • Build and strengthen your relationship with your primary care provider
  • Address health questions and concerns since your previous visit

How often should I get wellness exams?

Most medical professionals recommend getting wellness exams annually. However, this can change based on your age and health status. Whole Path Integrative Care might suggest scheduling a wellness exam more or less often than once a year for comprehensive wellness exams or follow-up visits.

Annual wellness exams give you the chance to analyze your health and re-evaluate any unhealthy habits you have. To schedule your next wellness exam, book an appointment online today.
